Document Review

I read and evaluate your writing in two ways. First, I'll read for what you want to say and why. Second, I'll read with a critical eye to tell you what works in your writing and what doesn’t. I provide you with a written evaluation that includes suggestions for improvement. Together, we discuss how you can re- shape your work into a vivid and compelling piece. I provide a fresh, professional perspective to your fiction and non-fiction.

Copyediting is the close scrutiny of the document as a whole.

It covers proofreading and examines word usage, tone, and conformity to your chosen style. It highlights ongoing problems with grammar, spelling, punctuation, and general word use. It notes sentences and paragraphs that are awkward, unclear, or fragmented. It identifies and eliminates repetitiousness and wordiness.

Proofreading is the final step in the editing process.

It examines your work line by line for typographical errors, errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spacing.

Pricing

To provide a free, no obligation estimate, I need to examine several pages of a short piece or two chapters of a book along with a brief synopsis.

Document Review: $35/hour
Copyediting: $5 per page*
Proofreading: $3 per page*

*Standard page is 250 words based on word count in Microsoft Word with each page double spaced and a standard one inch margin. The cost of services for handwritten pages will be determined after review.

What file formats do you work with?
I handle PC and Mac files in Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF format. I also review documents that have been handwritten. I accept work via email, and in hard copy. Hard copies may be submitted via USPS, FedEx or UPS.
